About the MVMT

More than a moment. It's a way ofbeing in the world.

AWKN MVMT is a movement for a more conscious world. Not a campaign, not a mood, and not a set of values on a wall. A record of what people actually did, kept in public, added to every day.

How it started

Kindness hadbecome a poster.

Kindness had become a poster. A word people put on a wall, walked past, and never had to act on. It had stopped being something you could point at.

So we started writing down the things people actually did. Not the grand gestures, and not the ones that get filmed. The small, specific, slightly awkward ones that cost the person something and gained them nothing.

That list became a dictionary. The dictionary became the whole idea.

We awaken
We unite
We rise
We build
We love

What the name means

This is howwe define woke.

Awake. Awakened. Woke. A word that used to mean paying attention, and got turned into an insult by people on every side of it.

We are not arguing about it. We are just giving it a definition you can act on, one entry at a time. Never a virtue, always a behavior, and small enough that somebody could do it before lunch.

What gets in,and what does not.

Three rules. They decide what goes in and what does not.

  • 01A behavior, never a virtue

"Be generous" is not an entry. "Paying for the coffee behind you and leaving" is. If you cannot picture somebody doing it, it does not go in.

  • 02Small enough to do today

Every definition has to be doable before lunch, by an ordinary person, with no money and no audience. Scale is not the point. Repetition is.

  • 03Verified, or marked unconfirmed

Where a story involves a real business, place or amount, we confirm what we can. Where we cannot, we say so on the page. We never invent one.

Who is behind it

Powered by theKINDR Foundation.

AWKN MVMT is powered by the KINDR Foundation, a nonprofit teaching mindful kindness through evidence-based programs in schools, workplaces, communities and prisons.

They do the long work. We keep the record, in public, so the rest of us have something to copy.
